Stamina is Quantum Quest s strong suit and the 5/2 favourite outstayed rivals to land Punchestown's three-mile beginners' chase under Mike O'Connor.

The Idaho gelding, trained for Simon Munir and Isaac Souede by Henry de Bromhead, had won a pair of three-mile hurdles last year and was making his chasing debut, albeit he had finished third in a strong Borris House four-year-old maiden point-to-point for Mary Doyle.

Ridden in third entering the straight, he looked held at that point but stayed on to head Vicar Street between the final two fences and saw the trip out well to score by a length and three-quarters from Da Capo Glory

"It was a lovely start. His hurdles form is good, he was running in high company," said O'Connor.

“The main thing today was to get him out, get him jumping, and then see where we were at the second-last.

“He did it well. He stays, he was a good stayer over hurdles, and we always thought a fence would improve him."
