Queenstown back on track giving O'Brien and Lordan doubles Queenstown doubles his tally after a 300-day absence in the Comer Group International Irish St. Leger Trial Stakes at the Curragh, giving Aidan O'Brien and Wayne Lordan doubles on the day. Although he was placed in two Group 1 races and finished third in a York Ebor last year, this gelding by Galileo hadn't won a race since his maiden win three years ago. He originally led, but Wayne Lordan opted to take a pull and sit second after two furlongs when Dallas Star took him on for the lead. The front pair had a ten-length break on the third after seven furlongs. He quickened up to lead three furlongs out and galloped on relentlessly under a left-hand drive to beat Kizlyar (100/30) by four and a half lengths. Leinster was a further two and three-quarter lengths back in third. "He was a long time off. Eamon and Shane done an incredible job to get this horse back. John and Jack and everyone. Aine, Simon, Olaigh; a big team to get him back. He had an injury at the end of last year and incredible that he came back,” commented O’Brien. “He'll go for the two races that he was second in last year - the Cadran and the French Leger. It's great because he is a gelding and they just get better and better. He was only ready to start today. Wayne gave him a lovely ride." Additional reporting by John O’Riordan.
