The Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster is a possible long-term objective for First Cornerstone following his Listed triumph at Tipperary last week.

Andrew Oliver's juvenile ran with plenty of promise when third on his racecourse debut at Down Royal, but took a big jump in grade for the Coolmore Canford Cliffs Stakes and was unsurprisingly the rank outsider.

However, the youngster justified the faith of his trainer with a fine display.

"He did it very well and we were delighted as we were quite worried about the ground when we arrived at the track," said Co Tyrone-based Oliver.

"He's a really nice-moving horse and the ground was plenty dead enough for him, but he produced a good performance under a nice ride from Chris (Hayes).

"We could have gone for a maiden but this was a race I'd watched and was aware of and I just felt it was a good opportunity for him.

"He's in the Racing Post Trophy now, but obviously we'll have to supplement him for anything else in the meantime.

"The National Stakes (Curragh, September 15th) is an obvious possible target for him, so I'll chat with the owners and see."
