Odds-on favourite Rakki (8/15) overcame a scare at the second-last to land the opening four-year-old maiden hurdle at Roscommon.

Owned by the Act D Wagg Syndicate, the Sea The Stars gelding had finished third in a Galway festival handicap on his first start for Willie Mullins.

Here, having tracked the leaders, he moved up to challenge travelling well when making a bad mistake two out.

Gathered up by Paul Townend, the winner was soon in front and was ridden out after the last to beat Hobart by four and three-quarter lengths.

"It was a nice find for him, it’s good to get his head in front,” said Townend.

“I think I would have won snugly if I didn’t miss the second-last, it’s a good sign that he was able to pick up again.

“Back in maiden company he was able to use his experience and he travelled sweetly.

“Hopefully he can improve away and he’ll be a fun horse in both codes.”
