The Tom McCourt trained Rampage took advantage of a lower mark on the all-weather when getting up late under Robert Whearty to win Division l of the QuinnBet Handicap at Dundalk.

Having finished second at Bellewstown on turf last time, the six-year-old was raised 2lb for those efforts. However, able to race off a 7lb lower mark on this surface, the topweight made his class count when coming from off the pace to land a second course and distance win. Carrickfinn and Wayne R Walker led the way until coming under pressure over a furlong out. Sierra De Gredos then came through to take over under Ben Coen inside the final furlong.

Only fifth at that stage, Rampage found extra when getting to the stands side inside the last 150 yards, keeping on strongly to score by a neck.

Tom McCourt said: "We had to have a go at it (with all-weather mark) and with this weather it is riding a bit slower.

"He ideally loves a bit of juice whether it is on grass or here.

"He was just wearing them down and he kind of needed every yard of it. Probably didn't travel as well as he can do early on.

"I was a little bit worried before the turn in that we weren't just travelling well enough, but they went quick enough.

"Rob is riding out of his skin, he's having a serious good run of it.

"I had words with the handicapper why he was dropping him on the all-weather and not dropping him on grass. He is always going to be proven right in these cases."
