Trainer Gordon Elliott brought up a three-timer on the afternoon, as odds-on favourite Romeo Coolio made a winning start to his career over fences in the BetVictor Beginners Chase at Down Royal.

A leading novice hurdler last season, the gelding was placed at both the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals.

Sent off 4/6f under Jack Kennedy, the Kayf Tara gelding chased leader Where's My Jet before pulling his way to the front after the usual fourth last.

With the final three fences omitted due to low lying sun, Romeo Coolio asserted after the bypassed second last staying on strongly to win by 14 lengths.

Gordon Elliott said: "It couldn't have been more straightforward.

"Jack said he's one of those horses that you would love to have the last three fences in, he was that good. Jack said he was very good.

"I thought it was a good performance, he couldn't have done any more than he did so we are absolutely delighted.

"I imagine we will probably head for the Drinmore (in Fairyhouse) now. We'll enjoy today and see what happens. You have the Drinmore and you have Christmas, we'll talk to the lads and see what they want to do. They are great supporters of Cullentra."

Paddy Power cut Romeo Coolio from 14/1 to 8/1 for the Arkle.
