Rosenborg on Song in Wexford for Sugrue The Philip Rothwell-trained Rosenborg (9/1) was a game winner of Wexford's Think Print & Design Maiden Hurdle, giving jockey Ross Sugrue his first winner since turning conditional. Rosenborg was last seen finishing second at Sligo, but was tough when asked for his effort and stayed on well to pick up the Gerard O'Leary-trained Sea Eagle and extend on after the last to win by two and a half lengths. "She was very good, she was good and tough and jumped very well. She’ll be a nice mare going forward, hopefully," said Tralee native Sugrue “She had a little duck at the road with a lap to go. There was a camera-woman there or something, I knew there was plenty of life in her anyway! “I knew I had a bit of toe and I made a bit of use of her down the hill. Thankfully she stayed going strong.” It was Sugrue’s first winner since turning professional, and he added: “It’s brilliant. I’ve only started a few weeks with Philip and I think that’s my tenth ride for him. It’s a great start. “I got a lot of support point-to-pointing, from all the Doyles and James Kenny. I rode a lot of winners for good people and, thanks to them, I got a lot of experience from them. “I rode 23 winners point-to-pointing and rode for good people. “I love the point-to-pointing, they are a good bunch of lads there. Philip came to me before Punchestown and I was quizzing myself for a month, I didn’t know what to do. “I said, ‘Sure, I can always go back,’ and I’d give it a go and see. I’m in a good yard and there are great people working there. “Thanks very much to Philip and the owners for letting me ride her, it was great. It worked out very well. “Philip has loads of runners and hopefully I get a few outside rides." (Quotes from Gary Carson)
