The first division of Punchestown's two-mile maiden hurdle saw Rosie's Wings (6/1) complete a double for Ricky Doyle.

Mrs Geraldine Devine's homebred six-year-old had finished third at Kilbeggan three weeks ago when returning from a nine-month layoff.

Doyle bided his time behind the leaders in a race run at a fair gallop and asked his mount to improve after the second-last.

Having made smooth headway on the approach to the straight, the Wings Of Eagles gelding hit the front approaching the last and soon went clear to beat Firebrand by an eased-down five and a-half lengths.

It was a second double in successive days for Doyle after a brace at Clonmel yesterday.

Winning trainer Ross O'Sullivan said “He was a bit unlucky the last day in Kilbeggan, it just didn’t work out for him on the night.

“He’s improved again and he’s a big raw horse, a fine-looking horse.

“It’s great for the Devine family because they bred him, it makes it even more special as he’s like a member of the family. Geraldine and Nick are delighted.

“He’s a horse that should keep improving and he’ll have no problem jumping a fence.

“Ricky said he’s raw, he’s on it and off it, and I’d imagine there is plenty more improvement in him.

“He won well, handles a bit of nice ground, so we’ll pick our tracks and keep going.”

O'Sullivan was making it three winners from his last three runners, with Clonmel winner Global View being followed by Switch From Diesel in today's opener, and all three were ridden by Doyle.
