Rosie Frith slipped the field to serve up a 20/1 surprise in the Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden at Cork.

She hadn't been placed in three previous outings, but it was a different story today.

She raced along on the far side under Patrick McGettigan in this five-furlong sprint and was the overall leader.

The daughter of Cotai Glory edged left to head the main field a furlong and a-half down and held a healthy lead at this point.

The other jockeys began to get busy at the furlong pole, but to no avail as Rosie Frith kept up the gallop to hit the line with two and a-quarter lengths in hand for the Kathmag Syndicate. Plushy (11/2) was best of the rest, half a length in front of The Right One (9/2).

Patrick Magee said: "Her first two runs were actually better than they looked and had a great run the first day at the Curragh, where she wasn't beaten far having raced very green.

"We made the running at Fairyhouse where she didn't get home over six (furlongs), so decided to let her go from the front today, as she is a forward-going type. She stole a march on them, used her experience, and a lot of the others were green in behind.

"I am surprised although was thinking she wasn't a no-hoper and, in fairness, the owner Seanie Mahon from Kells, who heads the syndicate, was very keen to have another go over five furlongs."
