Royal Ascot final day info The going at Royal Ascot for the fifth and final day remains Good to Firm following three millimetres of rain up to 8.30am. Chris Stickels, Clerk of the Course, said at 9.15am: "We had just under three millimetres of rain by 8.30am. Two millimetres evaporated yesterday so we are back to near where we started yesterday morning with some moisture in the ground. "We were forecast a band of rain and I think we are seeing the backend of that. We are forecast a few blustery showers later on during the day but I expect the going to remain similar to how it is now. "The ground has been pretty reasonable this week. It got quite quick on Thursday but the forecast rain did not happen. I think it would have been the wrong thing to have watered (after racing on Wednesday) with that sort of forecast. "Then we did water on Thursday night for Friday and, as it turned out, we did not get any rain yesterday apart from a bit of drizzle in the morning. "I have been pretty pleased with the ground and no-one has complained about it to me. The ground has been consistent across the straight track. The week has gone well."
