Sackville Haydock Bound

Sackville, one time Gold Cup favourite who suffered a serious loss of form last season, is due to take his second step on the road back at Haydock on Saturday.

Connections appear confident that the nine-year-old can build on the promise of his Morris Oil Chase run at Clonmel where he showed plenty of zest when finishing runner-up to Beef Or Salmon.

Whatever it was that afflicted Frances Crowley's charge last year remains a mystery, though his handler now reports him to be in good order and seeming to be back to his best.

Saturday's event, the Tommy Whittle Chase over three miles, will see the Irish-challenger lock horns with Navan-flop Behrajan and course-specialist Kingsmark. There are currently ten entries for the 50,000-pound feature.
