Andre Fabre will resist a crack at the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Waldgeist.

The master French trainer will instead keep him at home for the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on July 1st, with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe his ultimate aim in the autumn.

Waldgeist finished second in the Prix du Jockey Club last season and fourth in the Irish Derby, but has won his last two races in impressive fashion, including Sunday's Grand Prix de Chantilly.

"The King George is not what I am thinking, he will go for the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud," said Fabre.

"I’d just prefer to keep him in France for the time being.

"I don’t think he needs soft ground, he was second in the French Derby last year when the ground was fast and he won the time before on pretty quick ground.

"He goes on any ground, that’s never a worry

"He is maturing now, but keep in mind because of the conditions of yesterday’s race, he was getting 6lb from the second (Dschingis Secret) which I think is a shame in a Group Two.

"My target for him is the Arc."

Fabre also ran last year’s Arc runner-up Cloth Of Stars in the Chantilly race, but he is struggling to repeat that form this season and Fabre has raised the possibility of retirement.

Cloth Of Stars was sent off favourite but could finish only sixth of the seven runners.

"Nothing has really shown up. I put the hood on him but unfortunately it worked too well and he was asleep," said Fabre.

"Perhaps he’s a bit jaded, I don’t know.

"I’ll discuss plans with his owner (Godolphin), he might have a break or even be retired, we’ll see."
