Apprentice Sam Coen rode a double on the afternoon, as the Ado McGuinness trained Oiche Rua stayed on strongly from off the pace to win the Follow Limerick On Instagram Handicap.

Off the mark at Bellewstown on her most recent start, the filly was subsequently raised 6lb. However, with connections electing to claim off her back on this occasion, she was effectively running off 1lb lower.

Dropped out towards rear, Coen was content to take a watching brief as Nicola Burns led the way on Galaxy Wonder

The locally trained Spanish Temptress came through to take over a furlong out. Only seventh at that point, Oiche Rua went second 100 yards out before getting to the front close home.

“That’s my second double, I rode my first double at Dundalk during the winter,” said Coen.

“I was talking to Ronnie (Whelan) beforehand and he said to get her travelling all the way and make it comfortable for her.

“I got a lovely run through the race and the gaps opened when I wanted them to and she quickened up the outside lovely.

“She’ll probably stay a mile, or a mile-and-a-quarter in time.”
