Serienmond made a winning start for Gavin Cromwell with a cosy victory in the first division of the Cancer Fund For Children Charity Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown this afternoon.

The German-bred gelding went to post a 6/1 shot and was produced to challenge going to the last by Keith Donoghue.

He received a bump as the long-time leader Down Around ran around a touch in front but was soon challenging over the final flight.

The Sea The Moon gelding was soon in control in the closing stages and Donoghue could afford to ease up late on for a three-length success over High Honor.

Cromwell said:- “They went a good gallop which helped him settle. He’s been very keen at home since he came to us, and we’ve been working hard on just trying to get him to do things right.

“He jumped well and did everything right.

“It wasn’t a great race on paper and hopefully the handicapper is not too hard on him.”
