Strong-travelling Shadow Paddy (11/1) made the most of his handicap debut to grab his first success in Tipperary.

He was swinging away for Gary Noonan entering the straight and took over jumping two out in division one of the extended two-mile handicap hurdle..

Noonan rode him to assert before the last and the five-year-old gelding, with the first-time tongue-strap, responded.

He didn't meet the last on the best stride, but got away from it well and kept on to beat a staying-on Olord (10/1) by two and three-quarter lengths. Onebrightbluerose 7/2 joint favourite, was the same distance back in third.

Eoin McCarthy said: “He was a big weak horse and just got light after a few runs. The lads (Complete Package Syndicate) that own him know the game and were good to give him time and a bit of patience.

“He got strong for the break, and I’m delighted to get a winner for them. I think we’ll keep going with him for the summer.”

This was Shadow Paddy's fifth career outing.
