Shadow gets it right on third start

Shadow Of The Moon easily justified 8/11 favouritism, as she proved far too strong for her nine rivals in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Sent off a well-backed favourite on debut when twelfth of 21 at the Curragh in July, the Johnny Feane-trained grey since finished second at Tipperary.

Expected to make the breakthrough this evening, the Havana Grey three-year-old soon tracked the leaders on the outer under Luke McAteer, sweeping to the front with just over a furlong to go.

Readily increasing her advantage in the closing stages, she ultimately eased to a three-and-a-quarter length win.

The Kieran Cotter-trained Arklow Lad (9/2 from 13/2) filled the runner-up spot, with Hot To Foxtrot (22/1), also in the care of Feane, just a head away in third.

"She was nice and relaxed, and she picked up well," Feane reflected.

"The first day up the Curragh she came to win her race and she ran a little bit out of puff. I probably went a little bit far with her. She ran well in Tipperary and she did it well today, she was professional.

"I'd say she will stretch to six (furlongs) once she gets racing. She has a great attitude and a lovely temperament. She is worse (more laid-back) than myself!

"She went well and she won well, and the other one (Hot To Foxtrot, third) ran a nice race as well.

"She will probably go for a handicap now, possibly in the Curragh, and go from there."

STEWARDS REPORTS

The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the home straight involving Snowballs ridden by N.M. Crosse, placed fifth, Titan Sun ridden by R.C. Colgan, unplaced, and Sci Fi ridden by D. Browne McMonagle, placed fourth, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. N.M. Crosse stated that his mount shifted slightly right but he corrected him immediately. R.C. Colgan stated that his mount was reluctant to go through the gap and he overexaggerated his movement. D. Browne McMonagle stated that he received a slight bump from his outside. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards made no alteration to the Judge’s placings and were satisfied that no further action was warranted.

J.M. Sheridan, rider of Dark Enigma (GB), trained by J.G. Murray, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount stumbled leaving the stalls.

D. Browne McMonagle, rider of Sci Fi, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount received pressure from the outside a furlong down.

D.P. McDonogh, rider of Arklow Lad, trained by Kieran P. Cotter, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount steadied off heels in the home straight.
