Shannon Banks a winner for Kinirons Shannon Bank wore down Patty O'Farrell at the end of two miles in the Southern Waste Management Mares Handicap Hurdle in Listowel. This was her second start since switching to trainer Andrew Kinirons for whom she had finished in rear of mid-division in a handicap chase at Wexford last month. Sean O'Keeffe was seen exerting his arms on her widest of all turning for home as moved closer to the leaders. She improved into second after the penultimate obstacle, but still had more than a length to find on the run-in. She warmed to her task in the closing stages, though, and got the measure of Patty O'Farrell close home to win by three-quarters of a length at 8/1. Patty O'Farrell was the 9/2 joint favourite and was six lengths clear of Chosen Shant (25/1). Kinirons said: "I'm delighted for his owner Tom Mulvey as we have right craic over how I got to train this horse. "I previously trained a horse called Luker's Tipple for a group of lads who drink with Tom in Luker's Pub in Shannonbridge. When the lads were moving my horse to Gavin Cromwell, Tom - without even knowing me - said 'what's this lad Kinirons' number?', and moved this mare from Gavin's to me! "Tom is a sound man, but unfortunately couldn't make it down today. "In fairness, this mare had some good form in bumpers before I got her. We tricked away with her at home, and she took a bit of organising but we had this race planned and she had a nice run over fences the last day. She has come into herself. "She is a game mare, but I had a bit of convincing to get Sean (O'Keeffe) off last year's winner (and today's runner-up Patty O'Farrell) to ride this mare, but he listened thank God and gave her a great ride."
