Shesthedevil out on her own in Navan opener The Paddy Magee-trained Shesthedevil made all the running to land the opening Irish EBF Auction Series Maiden at Navan this afternoon. While her 16 rivals came up the centre of the track, Chris Hayes kept the 22/1 chance on her own hard against the far rail and his tactics paid off as she raced to a two and a quarter-length success over Natalia Lupini’s newcomer The Pipeman, a 16/1 shot. The winner is owned by the Black Steel Square Syndicate and her trainer commented, “The first day she fell out of the stalls and the last day she travelled like the winner and didn't really go through with it. She maybe does that a little bit in her work, but she works very well. She would work with (triple-winner) Rosie Frith and is well able to go with her. “She can just pull hard a little bit, so we said we would do like we do with Rosie Frith and throw the reins at her and let her do her own thing.” When asked if the jockey or trainer could take the plaudits for ploughing a lone furrow along the far rail, Magee replied: “Joint!
