Sizing the Star at Punchestown

Sizing Europe is set to light up tomorrow's action at Punchestown as Henry de Bromhead launches the son of Pistolet Bleu over the larger obstacles in the Evening Meetings At Punchestown Beginners Chase.

Denis O'Regan is due to take the mount on the clear stand-out among the eighteen entries for the two and a half miler.

De Bromhead said on Monday afternoon: "Over two and a half miles the heavy ground won't be ideal but it is good in the sense that for his first time jumping they won't be going flat to the boards.

"He has handled heavy ground before plenty of times over two but over two and a half we're going into the unknown. We've always seen him as a chaser though.

"I thought his last run was a great run (fourth in the Rabobank Champion Hurdle at the Festival) considering how unwell he was at Cheltenham only six weeks before.

"It was a thing called transit fever that he got over at Cheltenham and I've never seen a horse get as sick as he did, he was desperate for about five or six days.

"Denis rides tomorrow which is great."

Sizing Europe is a half-brother to that stalwart of Knockeen Stables, The Spoonplayer, who hasn't clicked yet in five attempts over fences but the Irish Champion Hurdle hero of 2008 has more size and scope about him and hopefully he'll take a high rank for owner Alan Potts.
