Dan Skelton is excited about unleashing his exciting Irish import Value At Risk at Haydock on Friday.

The Alcester trainer has been sent the five-year-old gelding by owner/breeder Mark Huglin from Philip Fenton's County Tipperary stable.

A dual bumper winner last term and third in Punchestown's Grade One Champion INH Flat Race, Value at Risk is set to have his first run over jumps in the Wingate Signs Supports & Superjosh Charity "Fixed Brush" 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle.

"We've had him about three weeks. He's come over basically fit. We've done a bit more jumping with him and kept him ticking over. We're very happy with him," Skelton told At The Races.

"He's a big, gorgeous, strong, proper chaser for the future and we've got some pretty lofty targets as a hurdler, we hope, but we definitely have got one eye on him being a chaser next year.

"I aim to start him off in a two-and-a-half fixed brush novice at Haydock. I think soft ground there will suit him, two and a half is about his trip on what we see at home. We'll take it from there.

"He's everything you hope and dream of. He's from a great family as well. We've just got to mind him and look after him and just hope we can make him into the best horse he can be.

"It's great to have Value At Risk on board. Hopefully we can do him justice."

Fenton was found guilty of possessing anabolic steroids and other banned substances last month and is set to appear before the Turf Club at a hearing on Saturday.
