Skylight Hustle showed the benefit of his hurdle debut at Gowran earlier this month when taking the Kettles Country House Hotel Maiden Hurdle in facile fashion at Fairyhouse.

The point-to-point winner was well supported into 4/5 favouritism and justified the confidence when making all in this 24-runner event.

The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding took command after two out where nearest rival Minella Diamond fell, and the odds-on shot was able to cruise home on the run-in under Jack Kennedy to score by an easy 21 lengths. Casterly Rock took the runner-up spot with the winner’s stablemate Ravendark a further four and a half lengths back in third.

Elliott said, “I’d say he’s a very smart horse. To be fair, I probably made a mistake running him too quick last year and he was too free here in his bumper.

“He had a great run the last day, he was only half fit and he blew up. I was delighted with him as we knew there was loads of improvement in him.

“We would have been disappointed if he got beat here today.

“I’d say he’s a real two miler. He’ll be going for the two-mile novice race at Christmas. We have to give him a go, I’d say he’s a very smart horse.

“Jack said that was impressive and that he picked up the whole way down the straight.”
