Slattery doubles up at Roscommon

Third on her previous start at Gowran, Cisterna (7/1) went two places better to gain a breakthrough success in the first division of the three-year-old handicap at Roscommon. 

After tracking the leaders in the extended seven furlong-contest, the Mehmas gelding was asked to improve by Andrew Slattery two furlongs out responded well to hit the front inside the final furlong.

Market leader Personified turned out quickly after winning at Ballinrobe on Friday. stayed on well to give chase in the closing stages but was three-parts of a length adrift at the line.  

Winning trainer Andy Slattery, completing a double after Kitty Bear earlier said "He was knocking on the door. 

“He was second in a nursery, but then disappointed a bit and we were doubting his resolution at times.

“Another owner had him, and I told the lads to buy him as he’d win a race for them. He’s done that.

“He’ll tip away. That was a 0-70 and he’ll still get into another one. He would have got into a 0-60 but there wasn’t one for him.

“John Quinn, a member of the (Alltheblues) syndicate, lives in Monaghan now but he’s born and reared two miles up the road from here.”

It was a double for the trainer after Kitty Bear's earlier victory.
