Slattery rounds off best-ever Flat season in style Twice a winner last season, Staysound Susie (6/1, from 12s this morning) gained her first win of 2025 on the last day of the turf season when landing the 1xBet Supports Irish Racing Sprint Handicap at the Curragh. A third winner for young rider Jimmy Dalton, the U S Navy Flag filly raced behind the leaders in the five-furlong contest and Dalton was waiting for a gap to appear on the approach to the final furlong. A seam opened just inside the furlong marker and the winner picked up well to hit the front in the final 50 yards. At the line the four-year-old, owned by the Dreamers & Believers Syndicate, had a length and a quarter to spare over Asdana. Winning trainer Andy Slattery said: “I had her roughed off for a few days after running here the last day and the lads said give her one more run. She seemed like she had enough racing going into the stalls and things like that. “I’m not sure whether she’ll be retired now or not. She’ll probably go in foal early next year and race early in the season. She’s suited by five or six furlongs on that ground. “Jimmy gave her a great ride and that’s his 10lb claim gone now. He did everything we asked him. “He’s based with me and hopefully he can kick on now in Dundalk and he’s grand and light. “That’s our best Flat season with 29 winners and we’ve had 46 winners since January between Flat and jumps. “Trying to better it next year is going to be the problem but we’ll give it a go.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee
