Killeaney Bear continued a good run for trainer Andy Slattery when making all to justify odds-on favouritism in the opening Durkin Bros. Electrical Maiden Hurdle at Sligo.

The 5/6 favourite, who was successful three times on the Flat last year, needed to be ridden right out by Cian Quirke in the closing stages to hold off the challenge of Tatateo by a diminishing neck.

The pair stretched clear on the run-in with a 13 lengths gap back to Le Roi Arthur in third.

Quirke said, “When Dan (King, on Tatateo) was coming at me he was never going to pass me. I couldn’t pull him up after the line, so I think he’ll stay further.

“He jumped a lot slicker today. We always held him in high regard and he’s a nice horse on the Flat as well.

“It’s beautiful, good ground and they have done a brilliant job.”

Slattery was recording a sixth winner this month under both codes, which was quickly added to by My Girl Sioux scoring less than half an hour later at Navan.
