Smooth Tom travelled beautifully in the first-time visor to scoot home for the Saltterys in the 10-furlong handicap at Leopardstown.

He was trapped out wide from stall 17, but it didn't inconvenience him at all as he enjoyed himself in picking off rivals past the three pole.

He swept through on the outer for Andrew Slattery to claim the lead with over a furlong to go and ran on well in the closing stages to open up by three lengths at 10/1. Giladah (9/2jf( took second and was half a length in front of Mr Rango (16/1). Turbulence (18/1) completed the placings in fourth.

Trainer Andy Slattery said: "The visors made a big difference as he wasn’t travelling in his races.

“We fancied him for the Lincoln and he didn’t get in and he never travelled here about a month ago and got stopped in his run coming home.

“We worked him in visors last Saturday morning and he worked well in them.

“He’ll probably go for a Premier Handicap on Guineas weekend. He likes a bit of juice in the ground.”
