Sole Power could bid to go one better than last year in the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

Eddie Lynam's six-year-old was a narrow second to Bated Breath in the 2012 renewal and he heads the six-day declarations for this year's contest.

The son of Kyllachy goes into the race in fine form following an impressive win in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on 2000 Guineas day.

Seven rivals he beat that day could reoppose including the second and third home, Kingsgate Native and Tangerine Trees.

Maarek, Mince and Swiss Spirit could bid to quickly bounce back from defeats they all suffered in the Duke Of York Stakes on the Knavesmire last week.

The Group Two could also see the reappearance of one of last year's leading juveniles in Reckless Abandon who numbered two Group One victories in an unbeaten five race campaign.

Pearl Secret has been heir apparent in the sprinting division for a while now and trainer David Baron would not mind a shower or two.

"At the moment it's all systems go, but we could just do with a bit of rain to keep the ground a bit easier for him," Barron told At The Races.

"We've got to run him somewhere, and you can't duck the issue all the way through, but it's early in the season to chance jarring him up.

"He might handle quick ground but we know for certain he handles soft ground so it's a bit of a risk. If it's good, safe ground I would think he'll go.

"He's in all the big sprints and the week after the Temple he's got an entry in France so he might have to go there."
