Action returns in the UK today after a day without racing there on Thursday, as Southwell's jumpers for bumpers programme has beaten the elements.

The track at Southwell is raceable alright, but the treacherous conditions aren't making it easy for yards to conduct their business and the very severe weather has caused Kim Bailey to decide against bringing Charbel to the meeting.

Travel is the reason cited for Charbel's absence, as well as a few other non-runners at the fixture.

This afternoon's meeting at Lingfield has been abandoned meanwhile.

Clerk of the course George Hill had called an 8am inspection due to the inclement weather but was forced to abandon the card due to "frost and severe wind chill".

There is little prospect of the temperature getting above freezing all day with snow showers also forecast.

Hill tweeted: "Friday's meeting ABANDONED due to overnight frost and severe wind chill. Temperatures not rising above freezing and snow showers due this afternoon."

Officials will inspect at 8am on Saturday ahead of the afternoon card that features the Listed Spring Cup.
