Spear Greenham bound Kevin Ryan plans to run Flaming Spear in the Aon Greenham Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. The three-year-old colt looked the real deal on his sole start as a juvenile, when victorious in a York maiden last July, and is one of 11 entries for the Group Three over seven furlongs. "Flaming Spear is in great shape and the plan is to go to Newbury," said Ryan. "He was a big, raw horse last year and we have just given him plenty of time to mature and develop." European Champion Two-Year-Old Belardo spearheads the list of possible runners, with champion trainer Richard Hannon having entered Middle Park runner-up Ivawood and dual Group Two victor Estidhkaar. John Gosden took the spoils with Kingman last season and has engaged the unbeaten Fannaan, while Aidan O'Brien could send over Phoenix Stakes winner Dick Whittington and Smuggler's Cove. Mill Reef scorer Toocoolforschool, Gimcrack winner Muhaarar, Code Red and Hail The Hero are also in contention.
