Star Set To Shine On Friday

Star De Mohaison is set to revert to fences in the John Smith's Future Stars Chase at Sandown on Friday.

Last season's Royal & SunAlliance Chase winner was an eleventh hour withdrawal from Saturday's Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, with connections stating they did not want to overface the five-year-old too soon.

And after a reappearance victory in a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham, trainer Paul Nicholls sees this as the ideal opportunity to get his season over fences underway.

'The horse is in cracking form, and as it turned out he probably wouldn't have run in the Hennessy if we'd left him in (because of the soft ground),' said Nicholls.

'I haven't had a chance to examine the entries for Sandown but all things being equal it looks a good stepping stone for him.

'It would be a big difference taking on similarly experienced rivals in soft ground there than doing it against seasoned handicappers at Newbury,' he told the Racing Post.
