Star Tops Hennessy Possibles

Star De Mohaison heads a 10-strong entry by Paul Nicholls as the Ditcheat handler sets out to win the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup for the second time as a trainer.

He captured the prestigious handicap chase at Newbury in 2003 with Strong Flow, having won it twice as a jockey on Broadheath (1986) and Playschool (1987).

Star De Mohaison, winner of the Royal & SunAlliance Chase, may try to emulate the Nicky Henderson-trained Trabolgan, who took the Newbury showpiece last term after winning the same staying novice chase at Cheltenham the previous campaign.

Nicholls' other possibles among a total of 70 entries in the 50th running of the Britain's longest-sponsored race on November 25 include last year's third Cornish Rebel and Royal Auclair, who occupied the same position in 2004.

Henderson's team of five includes Copsale Lad and Liberthine while Betfred Gold Cup victor Lacdoudal is among four entries from the Philip Hobbs stable.

Charlie Hall Chase scorer Our Vic, Joaaci and Puntal are in David Pipe's six while French trainer Francois Doumen has put in Innox, Nitrat and Cheltenham Festival winner Kelami.

The 2004 runner-up Ollie Magern, an early casualty at Ascot on Saturday, is one of four from the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard.
