Stern Long Walk challenge for Saphir Saphir Du Rheu faces a far-from-straightforward task on his return to timber in the JLT Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday, for which a field of eight has been declared. Paul Nicholls and owner Andy Stewart decided to revert to the smaller obstacles with the talented grey after he finished only fifth in the Hennessy Gold Cup. He will face a stern test from Colin Tizzard's Thistlecrack, who impressively defeated the reopposing Deputy Dan in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury. Nick Williams' Reve De Sivola has won the last three renewals of the race and will attempt to match Baracouda's four victories in the race. David Pipe sends Dynaste back hurdling, while Aqalim runs for John Ferguson. Gordon Elliott gives Taglietelle the chance to shine, with the Alan King-trained Karezak completing the field.
