Stony goes handicapping Stony Grey Soil, the subject of a major morning market move when contesting a maiden hurdle at Limerick on his latest start, goes handicapping at Cork tomorrow in the Mallow BBQ Evening July 9th Handicap Hurdle. Donal McCarthy's Ring Tones article in the Irish Field, the Saturday after the chestnut had failed to land the plunge (finished fourth) at Greenmount Park, made for interesting reading. Quoting a call centre supervisor McCarthy explained: "Accounts with addresses in Ho Chi Minh city and Ho Noi were seen taking the big prices on Stony Grey Soil, with the market dipping sharply from an opening call of 110 at half five through to 42 at six o'clock (am)." Stony Grey Soil, "the animal that lit up the cyber highways as money arrived from Asia and the south China seas of all places," will not have Ambrose McCurtain on his back for the first time in his racecourse career, with Eddie Power now due to take the mount. Interestingly Stony Grey Soil, an impressive bumper winner over two and a quarter miles, now drops back from the two mile five furlong distance of his latest start to two miles three tomorrow (he didn't appear to get home last time). Another runner to catch the eye here is Molko Jack. It is almost a year since this French-bred sluiced-up in a point-to-point at Inch. He has shown gradual progression under rules in the interim. In a recent Irish Field stable tour, his trainer, Liam Burke said the son of Lavirco has suffered terribly with feet trouble. He expects his charge to be able to pick up a hurdle on better ground before going chasing. The Glengoura, Curraglass, Mallow, Co. Cork trainer enjoyed a double at this year's Inch fixture, which was held on Wednesday last. Andrew Lynch has been booked for Molko Jack.
