The Juddmonte-owned Storm Piece completed a first and last race double for Ger Lyons, as he justified 10/11 favouritism (well-supported from 11/8) in the TRM Calphormin Race.

With four of the seven declared taken out for various reasons, just three lined-up for this seven-furlong heat.

Settled in rear by Jack Kearney, the 97-rated victor took closer order on the outer from the two-furlong pole and soon improved to dispute the lead.

Ridden and engaged in a tussle with Mathan inside the final furlong, he ultimately pulled out more in the closing stages to beat that rival by half-a-length.

The runner-up was a big drifter late-on, easing from 5/4 to a starting price of 11/4.

"We're delighted, the wheels are back on the wagon," Lyons, who took the opener with By The Lake commented.

"I'm delighted for young Jack. The kids are all stepping up, they are getting their chances and they are taking them.

"To see Jack in those colours is lovely and it's great for the confidence of them all, because they all work hard at home.

"That horse is a little favourite of mine. I had him wrong, because he's Night Of Thunder I thought he wanted juice.

"All his maidens I was running him on soft ground and I kept saying 'do I keep bumping into one?' and then he won.

"Then they hit me with an 11lb rise and I thought that was harsh on his fifth start. It took me out of the Britannia and premier handicaps.

"I thought he was out on the wing in Cork on his first run in a handicap.

"This was a nice place to put the wheels back on. I'll have to go home and study the programme and see where we lie with him but he's a nice horse."
