Successful raid by Leave At Dawn The Charles Byrnes-trained Leave At Dawn was given a confident ride by Barry Geraghty to land the Martin & Co Jewellers Intermediate Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham. To the rear for much of the two-mile-five contest, the 7-2 favourite was one of three to jump the last in unison and always looked likely to win when getting away from it well. Last seen finishing fifth at Galway, the five-year-old was not too hard pressed to score by three and three-quarter lengths from Fort Worth and Cusheen Bridge. Geraghty said: "They went a good, strong pace and he saw it out well. "I was a bit worried about the ground, but he seemed to cope with it and he's a bit of an unknown and seems to be progressing well. "I'd like to think he'd get further in time, he's a good, decent sort and I'd like to think he'd jump a fence." Byrnes said: "He got a very good ride off Barry, he decided he'd drop him out and come with one run. "He's a horse who stays well, but was very free the last day in Galway, where he looked the winner but got tired from the last. "Barry said he'd drop him out and come with one run today. In hindsight he probably needed the run the last day. "He'll jump a fence and will stay three miles in time. He's not slow and two and a half at the moment is the trip to be going with him. "He's progressing nicely and is horse that seldom disappoints. He should make the grade as a three-mile chaser."
