Off the mark when well supported on her handicap debut last time, the Danny McLoughlin trained Syzygy made it back-to-back wins when staying on late under Nathan Crosse to win the concluding Final Furlong Podcast With 1xbet.ie Handicap at the Curragh.

Held up towards rear of mid-division, the 12/1 chance was pushed along over two furlongs out as Goldrush Kid made the best of his way home.

Ridden to challenge a furlong from home, the daughter of Cable Bay had a sustained battle with God Knows inside the last 200 yards before edging ahead close home for a head verdict.

“She’s a filly that I liked but she was slow to learn everything and she’s improving all the time,” said McLoughlin.

“The last day she probably just got away with it. Today she sharpened up plenty and Nathan said he thought he even kicked a little bit too soon on her as she only does enough.

“She’ll probably benefit from stepping up to a mile-and-a-quarter and she enjoys those conditions.

“We haven’t long left in the year and it’s just been so quick for so long, you just have to take these chances when they come.

“I thought you needed a horse that would get a mile-and-a-quarter on that ground out there today.

“She got 7lb the last day and if it had been a mile-and-a-quarter I’d have had a little bit more confidence today. It’s great to get it.”
