Freezing temperatures at Navan last night has resulted in ground conditions being even more testing than originally predicted.

The going is now soft (soft to heavy in places) as compared to the description of soft at declaration time yesterday morning.

Temperatures dropped as low as -3C last night and Clerk of the Course Paddy Graffin believes this has contributed to the ground conditions.

Graffin said, “I came here this morning expected the ground might have dried out to be yielding to soft but it got down to -3C last night. The grass is still very wet and the ground is really tacky.

“I’m wet above my ankles after walking out there, and it’s certainly more testing than it was yesterday. The frost seems to have brought alot of moisture to the surface.”

The first on a seven race card at Navan gets underway at 2.00pm.
