The Real Article case may be reopened

Denis Egan, the chief executive of the Turf Club, has said on Monday that he will consider whether to reopen an inquiry into the running and riding of The Real Article in the Grade 3 Grimes Hurdle race at Tipperary on Sunday.

The Real Article finished second, beaten a short-head by Captain Cee Bee, in the Grade 3 Grimes Hurdle having been pushed out hands and heels in the closing stages.

The Tipperary Stewards subsequently held an inquiry into the running and riding of The Real Article but later accepted both trainer Edward O'Grady and jockey Pat Mangan's explanations.

However, Egan said on Monday that the case is not yet closed. "We do have the power in the rules to reopen the case," he said. "I'm not saying that we will or we won't, but it will certainly be looked at in the context of what happened. It happened yesterday and there has not yet been a chance to look at all the films."

A win for The Real Article on Sunday would have incurred a penalty, at the handicapper's discretion, for the gelding's next target, the Galway Hurdle. However, The Real Article is now set to run off his old rating of just 127 at Galway, but he has been raised to 145 in future races.
