The field dances to Shop DJ's beat

Shop DJ was the clearcut winner of the valuable Grade 3 mares hurdle at Punchestown. When Davy Russell sent her to the front before the last the race was over in a matter of strides. The duo crossed the line 13 lengths to the good.

Winning trainer Peter Fahey has only had his licence for just over six months and was delighted with the manner of the win. He said: “It’s great to get this big win. She has been knocking on the door all year.

“We kept her fresh after Fairyhouse and it paid off today. I couldn’t believe how far she won today. That’s her ground. She’ll go over fences next season.”

Shop DJ landed 43,875 euro for her success. 33/1 outsider Shirley Casper took the runners-up berth while Golden Sunbird who was backed in the morning from 9/1 to 6/1, finished third at 7/1.
