Three for the Irish at Perth

He was responsible for a winner having his first start for the yard in the shape of Bauhaus at Perth yesterday and today Gordon Elliott saddled Franc Villez, on outing number two for the Co. Meath outfit, to capture the Fifth Edward Massie Brown Classic Novices´ Chase at the Scottish track.

The chestnut gelding by Villez, won twice over hurdles last year for Jessica Harrington, and here the four length victor at odds of 100/30 (opened 4/1 touched 9/2) was partnered by Jason Maguire.

Elliott completed a double in the concluding Don´t Miss The Drifters Intermediate National Hunt Flat Race with Russian War, in the hands of 5Ib conditional jockey, Sean Quinlan. The Tipperary native brought the 6/4 market-leader home by two and a half lengths from fellow Irish raider, Presenting Bobo. Russian War is owned by Galway man, Tom Howley Junior, well-known through the manufacture of the Easyfix hurdles, which have been used regularly at Irish courses.

Meanwhile Ballyholland, third over the minimum trip at the venue on Wednesday, turned out a day later to land the Northern Marine Underwriters Scotland Handicap Chase. Backed from 11/2 into 7/2, Colin McBratney´s Tiraaz gelding, with Wilson Renwick up, beat off Water Taxi by one and a quarter lengths. This fellow had been victorious twice ´between the flags´ last autumn.
