Cootamundra is being freshened up for his next assignment in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran on January 23rd.

A very infrequent winner, John Berry's 10-year-old had earned a reputation as a tricky customer but he put his best foot forward at an opportune moment to come out on top in a tight finish for last month's Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan.

That valuable event was Cootamundra's first victory over fences.

"He's grand, and he's having a little break before the Thyestes," said Berry.

"He is what he is, really, and everything happened right for him on the day. He doesn't need a lot of work, so we'll look at the Thyestes. I'm not sure he's an Aintree horse, maybe an Irish National horse, if anything."
