Tidal could tackle Master Minded

Impressive Arkle Trophy winner Tidal Bay could take on Master Minded in the John Smith´s Melling Chase at Aintree on Friday.

Trainer Howard Johnson is considering his options for the seven-year-old, who is also engaged in novice events over two miles and 3m1f.

Johnson is keen to find out how his charge measures up to the Champion Chase hero, and the race could determine the northern raider´s campaign for next season.

"I´m tempted to get it out of the way this season to see which way to go next season and Master Minded on," he told the Racing Post.

"Then I will know if I have to keep out of the road of him because he could be a thorn in this horse´s side."

The 2m4f event is turning into one of the races of the season with Champion Chase runner-up Voy Por Ustedes re-opposing Master Minded on their first attempt at the trip with last year´s winner Monet´s Garden being laid out for the race after missing Cheltenham.
