Tithonus put down after suffering infection Denis Hogan has revealed that stable star Tithonus suffered a fatal infection during his winter break. The Glory Of Dancer gelding proved a flag bearer for the Tipperary handler last season, landing two €100,000 events at the Curragh in the prestigious Rockingham and Scurry sprint handicaps. Hogan was awarded with the prize for 'leading performance by a trainer' by the Curragh racecourse last October as a result of his handling of the six-year-old. Tithonus was owned by Tony and Mike O'Brien and was on a break when the injury happened. "Unfortunately Tithonus was put down during the winter," said Hogan. "He was home for the winter, at the owner's place, and he picked up an infection in his leg which got into the bone and it ended up being fatal. "I'm gutted for Tony and Mike. They have a couple of nice horses coming along but they'll go through a lot of horses to find another one like him. "It's a massive blow to the yard and to the owners and to me. He was a horse that could have brought us all over the world."
