Top targets for Eagle

Plans remain fluid as to where King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes runner-up Eagle Top will be seen out next.

Both the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and the Qipco Champion Stakes are under consideration for the John Gosden-trained four-year old following his narrow defeat to Postponed at Ascot last month.

It was the second race in succession in which Eagle Top had to settle for second best, having filled the same spot in the Hardwicke Stakes at the Royal meeting at the Berkshire track in June.

Hugo Lascelles, racing manager to owner Lady Bamford, said: "He has come out of the race very well and is happy and healthy and is just cantering away. To be honest we have got no firm plans.

"We may well go for the Arc or maybe the Champion Stakes. That is where he is and they are the two objectives. There is no preference at the moment. We will have to discuss that with the owner."

While a decision on Eagle Top's next target is yet to be made, Lascelles confirmed the Prix de l'Opera as the next objective for Star Of Seville.

The French Oaks heroine, who like Eagle Top is trained by Gosden, could only finish seventh in the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Lascelles said: "Frankie (Dettori) got off her and said she didn't handle the track. I don't think she would have beaten the winner (Legatissimo) as she is very good.

"The Prix de l'Opera will be her one and only start for the rest of the season now. As to keeping her in training next year, no views have been taken yet."

A trip to France could also be in store for the Gosden-trained Forever Now, with the Prix Kergolay at Deauville later this month a possible option for a horse last seen finishing eighth in the Gold Cup.

Lascelles said: "He has got a couple of entries at York, but the Prix Kergolay in France could be next. He worked well on Saturday.

"We could have looked forward to a bit more from him. Although he is solid, he is not out of the top drawer."
