Torcedor thriving ahead of Royal Ascot trip Jessica Harrington reports Torcedor in "great form" ahead of his bid for Gold Cup glory at Royal Ascot. The five-year-old, formerly trained by the now-retired David Wachman, made a hugely impressive start for Harrington in a conditions race at Leopardstown at the start of April before seeing off last year's Gold Cup winner Order Of St George in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan. Having subsequently landed the Saval Beg Stakes, Order Of St George is the 6-4 favourite to retain his crown, with Torcedor available at more rewarding odds of 16-1. Harrington told At The Races: "He seems to be in great form and he's an intended runner. "We decided to miss the Saval Beg as he'd beaten those horses twice this year, he'd beaten Order Of St George and the ground was very quick that night. "They'll go on it once quick during the year, but I just thought 'why jar him up before we get him to Ascot?' "He's in good order and we've just got to get him there fit and healthy and hope he relaxes enough. "He hasn't been beyond a mile and six (furlongs), so we've got to get the extra trip."
