Torquay Road revitalised on return to Sligo A winner over course and distance on his stable debut for Cian Collins last July, Torquay Road scored for the first time since then when landing the Sports Information Service Handicap Hurdle at Sligo. Having failed to build on that success off higher marks over the winter, the six-year-old showed a hint of a revival on his latest two starts. Down in the 0-100 grade for just the third time, the gelding travelled strongly under Danny Gilligan, before moving through to lead after two out. Lodilomoco threw down a determined challenge approaching the final flight but Torquay Road came away from it the better, staying on well to win by two-and-a-half lengths. “It was great to get it, he deserved it,” said Collins. “He had great runs and the form worked out very well, they were tougher races than you’d think for that grade and he was unlucky to bump into them. “He had course form here and it was another great ride by Danny. “He could go for another handicap hurdle or he might jump a fence, he’s a good solid jumper. We’ll see how he comes out of it. “We could travel to England, he has loads of options. He’s a good honest horse and there will be more days in him. “He’ll tip away for another couple of months anyway, we’ve never really tried him on soft. “He’s owned by a big owner in the yard, Kevin (McConnell), so it’s great to get a winner for him as he’s a big supporter of the yard.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
