Trappe eyes Christmas targets Gordon Elliott feels the future is bright for Captain Von Trappe following a pleasing effort in defeat at Punchestown on Sunday. The six-year-old opened his account over fences at the second attempt at Galway last month and in some style, coming home 13 lengths clear without being extended. He stepped up to Grade Two level for the Florida Pearl Novice Chase and was emerged with plenty of credit after filling the runner-up spot behind the in-form Shantou Flyer. Speaking in his Boylesports blog, Elliott said: "Colin Bowe's horse (Shantou Flyer) has been very good, it's won at Cheltenham and has been impressive all year. "Captain Von Trappe had a good race and was only beaten a length and a half so we're very happy. "You will probably see him in a Grade Two or Grade Three over Christmas and he could be a nice stayer in the making."
