Treacy battling through nightmare times Ryan Treacy has endured a nightmare time of it since getting a fall from the unfortunately ill-fated Foildubh in Wednesday's thetote.com Galway Plate. There was a very nasty incident at the second fence in the highlight of the week at Ballybrit, and two others came to grief as well as Treacy and Foildubh. The Fermanagh 5Ib claimer took up the story: "I left Galway (the University Hospital) Thursday evening, fasting, headed for Tallaght, after being told there was a chance I'd be operated on pretty soon afterwards. "When I arrived I was told it'd be the next day. "I had something to eat then, about ten that morning, and then there was more fasting. Not much more than an hour later though I was told there'd be no operation until next Tuesday (owing to the bank-holiday and under-staffing). "I was devastated, as I was in that much pain - whenever the pain-killers wore off - it was getting that bad that you'd think there was a blunt blade of a hacksaw scraping the bone. I was roaring with the pain and I mean roaring. "I done the AC joint in my shoulder too, and I could stick the pain there. My leg was just diabolical though. "I'm not exactly sure what the name of the bone is - the bone between my pelvis and my hip. The cup of that is broken off. "Dr McGoldrick has been fantastic for me. Only for him I don't know what I'd have done. He's kept in touch with the hospital to make sure I'm getting as much pain relief as is possible. "He's just been superb - doing everything he can for me. "It's a joke that I can't be operated on until Tuesday. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking forward to the operation but it's got to be done. "It'll be a separate operation then on my shoulder. "About all I have in my room is a window - no TV - so it's just people walking in, and walking out, and others roaring in pain too, so it's not been easy. "I've been a bit sharp at times with my father, and my girlfriend Gillian, who have been with me here all the time, but they've done everything they can. "I can't be grateful enough to everyone that's helped me." (EM)
