Pat's Pearl (6/1) stayed on best to beat Torquay by half a length in the extended two mile three beginner's chase in Downpatrick.

The runner-up was a 10/1 chance and there was a seven-length gap back to Comehere Hi in third at 16/1.

Jockey Ryan Treacy said: "She jumps well. We were lucky going out on the last circuit, she slipped on the bend. It would normally have knocked the confidence in any horse but it didn't seem to affect her.

"We were long at the third last and a little scruffy into the second last. I was always confident in getting there and she battled well to the line so it is great.

"That's my first ride for John McConnell and fair dues for giving me the ride.

"He thought fences would be ideal for her. She has great form over hurdles and if she takes to the fences she would have every chance on the day."
