Apache Tribe pulled clear for an impressive victory in the concluding bumper at Listowel today.

The Noel Kelly-trained gelding had shaped well when fifth on his track debut at Galway, having won a point-to-point for Denis Murphy back in February.

He went to post 7/4 favourite today and was produced to lead entering the straight by Oran McGill.

The Jukebox Jury gelding was asked to stretch and a furlong-and-a-half from home and soon asserted, really opening up in the closing stages.

McGill could afford to ease down late on to record a comprehensive 16-length win over long-time leader Poetic Glory

Kelly said:- “It probably took the Galway run for the penny to drop with him and it’s a good place to learn. He got a bump turning for home and nothing fell right for him.

“It’s great to come to Listowel and win so far.

“It took six and a half hours to bring the horse down here but an hour and 20 minutes for us by helicopter.

“He could run over hurdles in Cheltenham next month over a trip.”
