Vanderlin Pipped In Keeneland Feature

Andrew Balding´s Vanderlin finished a creditable second in the 600,000 Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland on Saturday.

The tough six-year-old won at Woodbine in August before returning to the Canadian track to finish fourth to Leroidesanimaux three weeks later.

However, the outsider Host came from last on the back straight to collar Richard Hughes and Vanderlin in the shadow of the post to win by a neck.

'We were in a good position and he liked the softer turf, Hughes told the bloodhorse.com. 'It just wasn´t enough today.'

Aidan O´Brien´s Ad Valorem was unplaced.
